Deposit

To receive a replacement hire car from Europcar, you will be required to provide a £1 security deposit. This amount will be blocked (not debited) on your payment card at the time of the booking.

The deposit will be used to settle any extra and additional charges you incur while renting the hire car from Europcar (including missing fuel upon return to the rental station either by yourself or following the collection of your vehicle, fines, excess mileage, valeting, waste disposal or insurance excess).

How can I pay my deposit?

The Europcar rental station responsible for providing you with your replacement hire car will contact you via telephone to collect the details in order to authorise your deposit.

When can I expect the return of my deposit?

Your deposit amount will be released after the hire car has been checked back in at the rental station and your rental has then been invoiced.

The processing time for deposit release typically ranges from 3 to 10 working days, depending on your card issuer. It's important to note that we hold the deposit amount as an authorisation only, impacting the available balance without completing a physical transaction. Once released, the amount will reappear in your available balance, not as a separate refund.

If it takes longer than 10 working days to reflect in your account or if you're uncertain about the release status, please contact your bank for clarification.
